Dr Steve Bruce

Dr Steven Bruce is a highly experienced specialist anaesthetist and pain medicine physician providing care through Northern Anaesthesia Service. He obtained his medical degree from Queen’s University Belfast and has been practicing as a consultant anaesthetist since 2017, when he was awarded his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA).
Dr Bruce also serves as a Visiting Medical Officer in the Anaesthesia Department at John Hunter Hospital, where he co-founded the regional anaesthesia service in 2018. His areas of particular expertise include regional anaesthesia, vascular surgery, orthopaedic and trauma procedures. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA), providing comprehensive pain management services alongside his anaesthetic practice.
Throughout his career, Dr Bruce has maintained a strong commitment to medical education, regularly teaching medical students and anaesthesia trainees. He is actively involved in research, currently serving as Principal Site Investigator for clinical trials examining advanced pain management techniques.
Dr Bruce holds additional qualifications in regional anaesthesia from the University of East Anglia and maintains memberships with several professional organisations including the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr Bruce enjoys spending quality time with his family and staying active through running. His combination of extensive clinical experience, ongoing education, and dedication to patient care ensures you receive the highest standard of anaesthetic management for your procedure.
