Dr John Prickett

Dr Prickett is a specialist in pain management and anaesthesia with over 25 years of experience in the Hunter region, as well as the United Kingdom. Originally from Perth, he earned his medical degree at the University of Western Australia before completing specialist anaesthesia qualifications in the UK and Ireland. After returning to Australia, he attained the Australian anaesthetic fellowship and, in 2010, completed a Masters of Medicine (Pain Management) at the University of Sydney.
Since 2008, Dr Prickett has been helping patients with chronic pain (both related to cancer and non cancer causes), focusing on individualised self-management within a multidisciplinary framework where patients feel supported, provide input and retain autonomy. He maintains close links with regional and state services.
Dr Prickett’s clinical interests include integrating interventional medicine into a whole person approach, and helping patients navigate the often complex reality of chronic pain.
Dr Prickett is an independent provider (ABN. 92 661 382 059) and sees patients in Charlestown and Maitland. Dr Prickett also sees private patients in hospital for acute and chronic pain problems upon request from the treating hospital doctor. Dr Prickett continues to foster close links with Royal North Shore Hospital and their high intensity pain management program.
